Mills transitional team holds preparatory meeting

Accra, Jan. 4, Ghanadot/GNA - The Transitional Team, named by President-Elect Prof. John Atta Mills on Sunday began a preparatory meeting in Accra to discuss the smooth transition of power from the outgoing President John Agyekum Kufuor Administration to the incoming Government.

The close-door meeting, attended by the Professor Mills, was believed to have centred on forming an inclusive government, and working smoothly within the limited transition period before the President-Elect Mills government would be fully formed to execute its agenda.

Madam Hannah Tetteh, Spokesperson for the Transitional Team, later told journalists that the Team, with its sub committees were in consultations to coordinate the activities of the Transitional Team to ensure a smooth changeover of government.

With a suggestion that political opponents were not enemies, Mad. Tetteh reiterated that the President-Elect Mills Government would be inclusive and said the President-Elect would place competence above party affiliation.

Some names of outsiders already featuring on the sub-committees of the Transitional Team are Dr Nii Moi Thompson and Dr Kwabena Dufuor both of the Convention People’s Party, which contested in last December’s parliamentary and presidential polls.

Madam Tetteh said the nominations would not necessarily form the next government but some were likely to be considered for government appointments.
The 12-member Transitional Team has Mr Paul Victor Obeng as Chairman, Mr Alex Segbefia as Secretary and Ms. Hannah Tetteh as Spokesperson. The other members of the Team are the Chairpersons of 9 Sub-Committees set up to provide the technical back up support to the Transitional Team.

They are:

1. Mr Victor Gbeho – Chairman, Inauguration Sub-Committee

2. Dr Don Arthur – Chairman, Sub-Committee on Transfer of Executives Assets

3. Togbe Afede Asor XIV – Chairman, Sub-Committee on the Economy

4. Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah – Chairman, National Security Sub-Committee

5. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni – Chairman, Sub-Committee on Governance

6. Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah – Chairman, Social Sector Sub-Committee

7. Mrs Betty Mould-Idrissu – Chairman, Sub-Committee on Legal Matters

8. Mr Kwame Peprah – Chairman, Sub-Committee on Energy

9. Alhaji Mahama Idrissu – Chairman, Nominations Sub-Committee.

The Transitional Team would work with the outgoing NPP Government to ensure the effective handing over of the nation’s administration from the President Kufuor Administration to the President-Elect Mills Administration. It would also advise on the nomination of persons to hold office in the new Government.
