President Kufuor invited for 700 anniversary celebration of
Exeter College
Accra, July 4, Ghanadot/GNA- Mrs
Frances Carncross, Rector of Exeter College, an affiliate of
Oxford University in Britain, on Friday invited President John
Agyekum Kufuor to the 700 anniversary celebration of the College
where he graduated as a Lawyer.
Mrs Carncross who was accompanied by Professor Christopher
Kirwan, Philosopher lecturer of President Kufuor from 1962 to
1964, said the anniversary would be in 2014 and expressed the
hope that he would find time to attend as ex President to
facilitate the process.
She was accompanied by six students from the college who are in
the country to learn about its development trend.
Mrs. Carncross lauded the Kufuor scholarship scheme instituted
by the College to support students and said the school
authorities would assist any student of the President’s choice
to study. The student would also be offered two years internship
in the United Kingdom after graduation.
President Kufuor expressed satisfaction for the invitation and
thanked his former lecturer for the
vigorous training he put him
through.
“The training has made me what I am today.”

President informed of Ejisumanhene’s death
Accra, June 25, Ghanadot/GNA- President John
Agyekum Kufour was on Wednesday informed of the death and
funeral rites of Ejisumanhene, Oguakro Aboagye
Agyei II by a delegation of Chiefs and Elders from the Ejisu
Traditional Area.
The late Ejisumanhene would be laid in state on Tuesday, July
15, 2008 and buried on Thursday July 17, 2008 at the Besease
Royal Mausoleum.
A press release from the Office of the President, in Accra,
signed by Mr Andrew Awuni, said President Kufuor in a tribute
recalled the dignified manner in which the late chief carried
out his role as a traditional ruler.
The President said the dignified manner in which the late
Oguakro Agyei II who was also a lawyer conducted his role
created the enabling environment for the development of the
traditional area.
The delegation of the Chiefs and Elders was led by Nana Yaa
Asantewaa II, Ejisuhemaa, and included Nana Bobie Ansah,
Bonwirehene and Acting President of the Ejisu Traditional
Council, the release said.

Korle Bu Accidents Centre suspends admissions
Accra, April 29, Ghanadot/GNA - Admission to Korle-Bu
Teaching Hospital Accident Centre has been suspended with
immediate effect until May 1 2008 because of congestion, a
statement Mr Mustapha Salifu, Public Relations Officer of
the Hospital, signed on Tuesday said.
The statement said patients, who required emergency medical
care are therefore advised to visit other health facilities
in their communities while those with minor conditions could
visit the Centre for treatment and discharge on the same
day.

Asantehene to hold durbars for Malian President, Princess of
Thailand
Kumasi, April 16, Ghanadot/GNA- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the
Asantehene, will hold a durbar in honour of President Amadou
Toumani Toure of Mali on Friday, April 18.
The Asantehene will also organise another durbar for Her
Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Crown Princess of
Thailand on Monday, April 21.
In a statement signed by Mr G. B. Osei-Antwi, media
relations manage at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on
Wednesday, indicated that both durbars would be held at the
palace.
It said, the Malian President who would be on a three-day
state visit to Ghana from Thursday 17 to April 19 would
arrive in Kumasi on April 18.
The Princess who would also be in the country for the 12th
Summit of UNCTAD from the 20th to 24th of April would arrive
in Kumasi on Monday, April 21.
The Statement said that the two separate durbars would start
at eight o’clock in the morning and hoped that chiefs and
the general public would attend the event in their numbers
to make it a success.

CEPS Management to address grievances of stakeholders
Accra, April 15, GNA – The Commissioner of Customs, Excise
and Preventive Service (CEPS) would address a public forum
on Thursday, April 17 to address concerns of stakeholders.
A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday and signed by Ms
Annie Anipa, Assistant Commissioner in-charge of Public
Relations said the forum would be held at Aviance Car Park
at the Cargo Village at Kotoka International Airport at 0900
hours.
“The Commissioner and his team are expected to answer
questions and address issues relating to delays in the
clearance of goods and any other grievances or concerns from
stakeholders and the public,” the statement said.
It urged stakeholders, particularly the trading and business
community to attend the forum.

Justice Abanga is dead
Ho, April 9, GNA - Justice Andrews Amosa Abanga, a Ho High
Court Judge is reported dead.
Judicial Service sources in Ho told the GNA that his family
informed the Service that the Judge died on the way to his
hometown in the northern part of the country.
The sources could however not tell the circumstances of his
death.
Justice Abanga was said to have worked as a High Court Judge
in Ho for the past four years.
He was described as a fair and firm person who did not play
with his work.

Nigeria since 1975, El Anatsui is one of Africa’s leading
contemporary artists. He creates large-scale metal

Police to close roads leading to Independence Square
Accra, March 4, GNA – The police will close roads leading to the
Independence Square to vehicular traffic on Thursday, March 6,
from 0600 to 1000 hours for the 51st independence anniversary
celebrations.
A statement signed by DSP Kwesi Ofori, Director of Public
Affairs,
named the roads as 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters
Junction to Castle Traffic Light and the Road linking Starlets
95 Road from the Independence Arch to the Independence Square.
It said vehicular traffic on the 28th February Road from the
Accra direction towards Osu would be diverted at the CEPS
Headquarters Junction onto Liberia Road towards the Ministries
traffic light and the National Theatre.
Traffic on the 28th February Road from the Osu direction towards
Accra would be diverted at the Castle traffic light onto Salem
Road towards Osu Presby Church.

Eastern Regional Security Council places 2,000 Ghana cedis
reward
Suhum (E/R), Feb. 27, GNA - The Eastern Regional Security
Council has made an offer of 2,000 Ghana cedis to anybody who
would provide information leading to the arrest of perpetrators
of the recent serial killings at Suhum.
The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy
Commissioner of Police Rev Ampah Bane, said this at a public
forum at Suhum on Tuesday.
Suhum in recent times has experienced mysterious killings and
seven people have so far been killed. Most of them were night
watchmen at their duty posts.

Karim Wemah wanted for serious fraud
Accra, Feb. 22, GNA - Mr Karim Wemah, an engineer and former
lecturer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and
Technology, Kumasi, is wanted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO)
for stealing and causing financial loss to the state.
A statement signed by Ms Evelyn Bekoe, Head of Public Relations,
SFO, said the Accra Fast Track High Court has issued a warrant
for his arrest.
It said Mr Wemah, a native of Tamale was also a former Deputy
Managing Director of Neoplan Ghana Limited and Director of
Gbewaa Civil Engineers Limited.
The statement said anyone with information on him should report
to the Acting Executive Director of SFO on telephone numbers
021-665559 and 021-667017.
