Fuel price increase will not affect lorry fares- GRTCC declares

Sule Salami, Ghanadotr

April 2, Ghanadot - Contrary to the speculations that the recent fuel price increase would lead to an increase in lorry fares, the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) has announced that there would not be any increment in lorry fares, irrespective of increase in fuel prices.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the GRTCC, Alhaji Issah Tetteh, the increase in fuel prices announced by the National Petroleum Authority is not significant enough to warrant any increment in lorry fares. He has therefore warned drivers to desist from charging unapproved fares.
It is however not clear what sanctions would be meted out to non-conformist drivers who disobey the union’s directives.

The oil marketing companies in consultation with the National Petroleum Authority on Wednesday increased the ex-pump price of some petroleum products.

Petrol was increased by 10% and would now be sold at GH˘3.86, diesel attracted 2% increment and sells at GH˘3.90. Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) was increased by 5%.

However, prices of premix fuel and kerosene remain unchanged.
