Fuel prices go up today
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, April 1, Ghanadot - Reports reaching Ghanadot indicates that the ex-pump prices of petrol and diesel have been reviewed upward in line with increases in crude oil prices on the world market.

Petrol has been increased by 10% whilst diesel goes up by 2%.

By this margin, a gallon of petrol would be sold at GH¢3.86 and diesel, GH¢3.90.

There have been no changes to the price of kerosene and premix fuel.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has seen a 5% increment while Marine Gas Oil has seen a 2% increment.

The increase takes effect today, Wednesday April 1 2009 at 06oo GMT.

The increase comes a month after the prices of petroleum products were slashed in line with tax reductions proposed by government in the 2009 budget.

According to the report the prices have already been agreed upon by the Oil Marketing Companies and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and would be confirmed later today before they take effect at the pumps.

The increase is the first in this year and the highest for petrol since the government intervened to mitigate the impact of high fuel prices at the height of the energy crisis last year.

A visit to some fuel stations in the capital indicated that nothing so far has changed in terms of pricing, but officials say something would be done before the end of today.
