President Kufuor sends compliments to
Ghana 2008 participating teams
Accra, Jan. 16, Ghanadot/GNA –
President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday sent his compliments
to the 16 participating countries of the 26th MTN African Cup of
Nations and wished them good luck in the three week soccer
fiesta to be hosted by Ghana.
The host President and Chairman of the Africa Union, ahead of
the official opening of the tournament on Sunday, January 20,
took the opportunity to particularly welcome the players,
officials, the media, football fans and numerous distinguished
personalities visiting Ghana and wished them a memorable
experience on their stay.
Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman in a
Press Release copied to the GNA Sports said the President and
the people are delighted that Ghana is the destination for the
continent’s top football event.
He said it is thus her determination to offer the best in terms
of facilities for the tournament and to ensure a high display of
the legendary Ghanaian hospitality to all.
President Kufuor said the Black Stars as the host of the Ghana
2008 present yet another opportunity for them to prove to the
rest of the world their enviable performance capped by their
impressive 2006 FIFA World Cup outing in Germany.
He said he has no doubt that the Black Stars have what it takes
to lift the ultimate trophy for the fifth time to make the
country proud.
The President called on the sporting public to enjoy the event
and ensure that the tournament becomes successful and a
memorable one as “we all enjoy the nation’s passion of soccer
with our African brothers.”
Ghana’s Black Stars would kick- start the tournament against
Guinea on Sunday, January 20 at the Ohene Djan Sports stadium in
Accra.
