Ghana Wesley Methodist Church, USA 5th Anniversary and Harvest
Ghandot.com

The Ghana Wesley Methodist of USA, Arlington, Virginia, celebrated its 5th anniversary with a harvest on November 12, 2006.

The officiating pastors were Rev'd Dr. Kwasi Kwakye-Nuako of Ghana Wesley Methodist and the Rev'd Yaw Nkasah of the Presbyterian Church, USA.

The current Wesley Methodist Church in Arlington came into existence when 13 of the 16 founding members of the Gaddiel Acquaah Memorial Methodist Church of Alexandria, also established by Ghanaians, separated from the latter church.

According to the Social Secretary of the Wesley Methodist Church, Mr. Joe Andorful, they “had to separate to form our present church due to an imposition of a Pastor from Ghana on us, by the former presiding bishop when we were not ready.”

The separation occurred on October 21, 2001. And in the words of the social secretary, “the Church was born” when the old members from Gaddiel Acquaah Memorial Methodist Church met on October 24, 2001 and decided to form their own church.

On October 28, 2001, the enterprising members had their first church service at a Methodist chapel located at 2315 South Grant Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Forty-three members of the old Gadiel Acquaah memorial attended the first service.

Since then, the membership of Wesley Methodist Church has grown to 169 and it is still growing. It has elected its own pastor, has its own pastor and a choir of some 20 men and women.

Many of the pioneering members were present at church on the Sunday of November 12, 2006. Among them were Dr. and Mrs Albert Wright, Sis. Agnes Acquah, Bro. Joe Andorful, Sis. Mercy Andorful, Dr. Ben Gyepi-Garbrah, Mrs. Felicia Gifty Ofori-Atta and others.
