united front
By Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot
Accra, Jan 18, Ghanadot -
The 8th National Delegates' Congress of
the ruling NDC has ended peacefully with major
forces thought to be at each other's throat
singing unity songs.
And after closing remarks by President John
Evans Mills, delgates and followers of various
contestants simply poured out of the West Africa
Examination Council Hall and unto the streets of
Tamale singing songs the party has scored high
marks given pre-congress fears that violence was
inevitable.
The Congress saw the election of a mixed bag of
so called pro-Rawlings and pro-Mills loyalists
to man the affairs of the party for the next
four years.
Wife of former president Rawlings, Nana Konadu
Agyemang Rawlings won the First
Vice-Chairmanship position by about 1,433 out of
1900 voters.

Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, Alhaji
Saeed Sinare won vice chairman positions.
Kofi Poturphy and Danny Annan won the remaining
two Vice-Chairmanship slots to complete the set
of six vice-chairmen.
Pro-Mills Dr Kwabena Adjei and Johnson Asiedu
Nketia, retained their Chairman and General
Secretary positions respectively.
For the position of Propaganda Secretary,
Richard Quashigah, with 1,270 votes beat his
contenders, Bernard K. Allotey and Mustapha
Kabila who got 439 and 114 votes respectively.
At 8:20am Sunday, vote counting is still in
progress for most of the positions being
contested, among them six elective positions for
vice chairperson. Former First Lady, Nana Konadu
Agyeman-Rawlings is among 18 contenders for the
slots.
Mr. Kamel Loshie, with 1501 votes emerged winner
of the contest for Treasurer, beating Adisa
Abdul Usif who obtained 351 votes. Two ballots
