Vote NDC to overhaul NHIS – Naadu Mills
Accra, Sept 25, Ghanadot/GNA - A government of the National
Democratic Congress under Professor John Evans Atta Mills
will overhaul and remove all the bottle-necks in the
National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to make quality and
affordable medical-care accessible to all Ghanaians.
This was stated by Mrs Naadu Mills, wife of the NDC
Presidential candidate during a visit to Ussher Polyclinic
and James Town Maternity Clinic in Accra.
She was on an outreach programme to health institutions,
markets and lorry parks to solicit support for Prof Mills
and the NDC.
Accompanied by Mr E T Mensah, a National Vice Chairman of
the Party; Mr Jonathan Tackie-Komme, MP for Odododiodioo;
Regional and constituency executives of the NDC, Mrs Mills
was conducted round the various units of the two health
institutions by Dr Emily Onuoha, Medical Officer in charge.
After inspecting the facilities at the Ussher Polyclinic,
Mrs Mills presented bags of rice, beverages, sugar, milk and
other provisions to the centre for the upkeep of the
inpatients.
At the Maternity Clinic, Mrs Mills, after interacting with
nursing mothers and their babies, distributed weighing bags,
diapers and sanitary towels to the institution.
Addressing the staff and patients, she called on them to
exercise their franchise properly in December by voting for
Professor Mills and the parliamentary candidate, Mr
Tackie-Komme.
She said the NDC introduced the NHIS on a pilot basis when
it was in power and not the New Patriotic Party
administration.
From the Maternity Clinic, Mrs Mills and her entourage,
accompanied by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters with
brass band music, stopped at Timber Market, Agbogbloshie
Market and Kokomba Yam Market were she addressed “umbrella
meetings”.
Mr E. T. Mensah called on the people to compare the track
record of the NDC as a social democratic party with that of
the NPP’s property owning agenda and vote for the one that
had the welfare of the people at heart.
He urged them to disregard “empty promises” being made by
Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make education free at the
secondary level.
Mr Mensah held that the Free Compulsory Universal Basic
Education, the capitation grant and the school feeding
programme were all constitution provisions and not the
“goodwill” of the government.
He asked the people to vote for the NDC in the elections to
ensure change that “attracts” and not to merely go forward
with economic hardship and deprivation.
He gave the assurance that as a tax expert, Prof Atta Mills
would review the tax system to reduce rent and other tolls
paid by market women to boost economic activity.
Mr Tackie Komme reminded the people of the achievements and
good work of Prof Mills when he was the Vice President and
called on the people to disregard the empty promises of the
NPP.
He urged the people to stand solidly behind the NDC to win
the December election to form the next government and to
retain the Odododiodioo seat.
The Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organiser, Madam Vivian
Ankrah, called on market women to support the NDC because it
proved that it cared for the people when it was in office to
end the hardship that they were facing.
Mr Daniel Okai, the constituency chairman, stressed the need
to change the government to put and end to what he called
“high school fees and medical bills” and to make life easier
for the youth.
There was a show of political maturity when after the mini
rally at the Timber Market, Mrs Naadu Mills and her
entourage stopped by the office of the NPP close to that of
the NDC to exchange fraternal greetings with officials
there.
