Sixteen perish in a 207 accident

Albert Kan- Dapaah, Minister of Defence and Mr. Emmanuel
Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister, on Sunday
paid a working visit to Amoako near Offinso in the Ashanti
Region.
They were there to assess and have a first hand information
on the accident in which 16 people, perished when the 207
bus, on which they were travelling from Tetrem to Kumasi ran
into a taxi cab at Amoako in the Afigya–Kwabre District in
the Ashanti Region on Sunday morning.
The Ministers were accompanied by a delegation from the
Ashanti Regional Police Command, Ghana National Fire Service
and National Disaster Management Organization.
After visiting the scene of the incident, they held a
meeting with the chiefs and people of Amoako, Boamang and
Tetrem, as well as the Offinso Divisional Police Command who
were investigating the accident. .
They also visited the seven surviving victims of the
accident at the Saint Patrick’s Hospital at Maase in the
Offinso Municipality and the bereaved families of the
perished.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah, who is also the Member of Parliament for
Afigya-Sekyere, commended those who rescued the accident
victims.
He cautioned against apportioning blame in the wake of the
accident, saying “we should allow the police to conduct
their investigations as to the cause of the accident”.
Mr. Owusu-Ansah said that the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating
Council would support the surviving victims and bereaved
families with incentives to enhance their up-keep and
cautioned drivers as well as passengers to be cautious on
the road.
