Teachers, pupils plant tree seedlings at Aboadze

Aboadze (W/R), Nov. 25, -GNA-Teachers and pupils of five first cycle schools at Aboadze and its neighbouring communities as well as the Aboadze Catholic Church on Saturday planted 400 seedlings of mango, teak, orange and other tree species on their compounds in support of the Greening Ghana Initiative (GGI).
The schools are the Abuesi/Aboadze International Power Company (TICO) JSS, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) Primary and JSS at Abuesi, Shama Model JSS, Dwomo Methodist Primary and JSS, Aboadze Catholic JSS and the Islamic JSS at Aboadze.
The tree planting exercise was organised by the West African Gas Line Company, one of the co-sponsors of the GGI.
The company presented a quantity of water cans and other planting implements to the schools to nurture the seedlings to maturity and T'shirts for the teachers and the pupils.
According to Mr Albert Quainoo, Communication and Media Representative of the Company, the company is participating in the GGI by planting trees in its areas of operation at Aboadze, Abuesi, Shama, Inchaban, Tema Manhean and Kpome.
Speaking to the press at Aboadze during the exercise, he said, the tree planting exercise would be undertaken in selected communities in those areas every month.
Mr. Quainoo said the GGI aims to use the country's Golden jubilee celebrations to resuscitate and restore the natural environment to its green and lush state.
He said about 100,000 groups are participating in the initiative which aims at planting at least five million trees to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebration.
Mr Quainoo said tree planting would be carried out in communities and deforested areas of the country.
He said the Forestry Commission, the Department of Parks and Gardens and forestry nurseries in the districts would supply tree seedlings for the GGI.
