World Tourism Day will be a showpiece

Accra, July 3, Ghanadot - A member of the National Planning Committee of the World Tourism Day, Mr Jeff Hagan has disclosed that, the country is determined to make the world event a cultural showpiece and project a good image for Africa.


Ghana is the second country after Algeria to host the world tourism event in recent years.


According to Mr Jeff who spoke to Ghanadot in an interview, the event to be held in September this year would provide an opportunity for people around the world to celebrate various customs and diversity of Ghanaian culture.


To ensure its success, he said, various committees constituted by the Ministry of Tourism were working feverishly.


The committees include accommodation, catering and entertainment, programmes, tours and protocol. The rest are security, health, sanitation, beautification, reception, finance, budget and sponsorship.


Mr Jeff has however call for the support of all Ghanaians to support the memorable event and make it successful.


In another development, the PANAFEST Foundation has promised to make the 2009 PANAFEST/Emancipation Day successful.


In a press release issued in Accra and which was signed by the General Secretary of the foundation, Mr Rabbi Kohan Halevi, it promised to collaborate with the Tourism Ministry for the smooth celebration of the event.


Noteworthy events will be the wreath-laying ceremony at the Du-Bois Centre, the George Padmore Library and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on Thursday, July 16, 2009.


There will be another wreath-laying ceremony at the Rev Dr Martin Luther King Centre at Bono Manso in the Brong Ahafo Region on Saturday July 18, 2009 in memory of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Malcolm X, Ms Rosa Parks, and Mrs. Corretta King.
