Agudey to contest CPP presidential slot for 2012
By Abdul Salam Sule, Ghanadot
Accra, March 17, Ghanadot - The 2004 Presidential candidate of
the Convention People's party (CPP), Mr George Opesika Aguddey
has declared his intentions to contest the flagbearership race
of the party in the 2012 elections.
According him, history favours those who have contested the
presidential seat for the third time and he would be no
exception.
Speaking in an interview with a local radio station in Accra
today, Mr Aguddey cited ex-PresIdent Kuffour and President Mills
who contested the elections on three consecutive times before
winning the presidency.
He noted that, it was only in the year 2004 that he led CPP and
so had two more chances to lead the party to victory.
Mr Aguddey was however very optimistic that his coming back in
2012 would help win the presidency for the CPP.
Political analyst has however ruled out any chances of Aguddey
winning the CPP Presidential race.
According to Mr Ibrahim Yoda, a political analyst who spoke to
Ghanadot, Mr Aguddey has little chance, considering his attitude
towards the party after the party's Presidential primary in
Kumasi.
He said,Mr Aguddey after loosing the race to Dr Paa Kwesi Ndoum
angrily stormed the national office of the Convention People's
Party and took away all his belongings from the office including
a wall clock.
This Mr Ibrahim said has ruled out any chance of Aguddey to lead
the party and advised him to stay away.
Already Ghanadot has picked signals that, Prof Agyemang Badu
Akosa and Dr Kwesi Ndoum will put in their bids for the seat
when the time comes.
The Convention People's Party performed poorly during the 2008
general elections. Samia Nkrumah, daughter of the late
president, was the only one able to win a parliamentary seat at
Jomoro, in the Western Region, for the party.
