Government blows GH¢5.6million on
renovation of 82 bungalows

Accra, Dec 9, Ghanadot - The Government of
Ghana has spent a total of GH¢5.6 million
(56billion old Ghana cedis) on the
renovation of 82 government bungalows since
the Atta Mills led National Democratic
Congress (NDC) came to office in January
2009.
This is contained in a written answer
provided by Dr Hannah Bisiw, Deputy Minister
of Water Resources, Works and Housing, in
response to a question by Hon Dominic
Nitiwul MP for Bimbila in Parliament
yesterday.
Hon Nitiwul wanted the Minister to brief the
House on the total number of government
bungalows renovated this year and the total
cost of the renovation.
The renovation covered 57 ministerial
bungalows in Accra which were renovated at
an average cost of GH¢72,112 (721.1 million
old Ghana Cedis) per bungalow. Five other
ministerial bungalows and additional works
on two ministerial bungalows in Accra making
seven bungalows, were also renovated at an
average cost of GH¢122,581 (1.2 billion old
Ghana cedis) per bungalow.
Eighteen bungalows for senior civil servants
under the public investment project were
renovated at an average cost GH¢35,428
(354.2 million old Ghana cedis).
The renovation work includes civil and
electrical work, furniture, appliances,
curtains, and carpets.
However, NPP members of Parliament are
raising eyebrows on the amount spent on each
bungalow describing it as unacceptable.
