Ghanaian wins jackpot in Glo promo
By Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

A Ghanaian based in Nigeria, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, was among the first set of winners in this year’s Glo “text 4 million” promo.
The promo has taken the Nigerian telecommunications landscape by storm since its introduction about two weeks ago.
Mr. Kwabena, who is a staff of MRS Group in Lagos, Nigeria, won the sum of N1 million (about $8,000) through the game he played by sms which costs N100 each (about 50 cents).
Speaking on his luck at the presentation of the cheque in Lagos, the soft spoken Mr. Kwabena expressed surprise that he ended up as one of the winners.
“I have been in Nigeria since 2007 and have used all the networks. Of all, Glo stands out mainly due to its excellent customer care service”, he said, adding that he had remained a loyal subscriber of Globacom for that reason.

The elated Ghanaian, who enjoys Globacom’s excellent roaming services, recalled that he was on holiday in Accra when the draw that picked his number was done. “I was actually driving in Accra when my phone rang. It was a Nigerian number and I thought it was a call from someone from my office. When picked the call I was surprised to hear that I won a million naira in the promo.

“I quickly called a few friends in Nigeria to help confirm if I had actually won and they got back later that it was indeed true”, he disclosed.

“This goes a long way to show that this is a genuine promotion and more importantly that Glo does not consider nationality when rewarding its subscribers. This promotion is organised fairly and I make bold to say that if you deserve to win, you will win”.

Mr. Kwabena said that between the time he was informed he had won and when he received the cheque, he kept thinking about all he could do with the money.

The Globacom “text 4 million” promo is designed to reward old and new subscribers on the Glo network in Nigeria.

The total prize money to be given away in the promo is N555m (about $4 million) and these include free airtime for 10,000 winners everyday and other exciting prizes such as laptops, 3G modems, I-pods and generator sets in addition to N1m cash every day, 2 special prizes of N10m monthly and the N30m grand prize which will be won by lucky subscribers in the promotion. This will throw up a total of 10,266 winners on a daily basis.
