Ghana, World Bank sign $300m Development Financing Agreement
Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot

Accra, July 15, Ghanadot - Ghana and World Bank yesterday signed $300million Financing Agreement in respect of the Economic Governance and Poverty Reduction Credit (EGPRC).

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor signed for Ghana whiles Ms. Eunice Dapaah, Acting Country Manager of the World Bank initialed for the bank.

The programme will assist Government of Ghana to stabilize the country’s economy and pursue strategies, which will safeguard future growth, provide social protection and thereby limit the impact of the global financial crisis.

The $300million is part of the $535million approved by the Board of Directors of the World Bank announced on 30th June 2009 to support three credit facilities aimed at helping improve economic governance and stabilizing Ghana’s economy.

Furthermore, the support will help the government to protect vulnerable groups from sliding deeper into poverty, which could further threaten the progress that Ghana has made towards attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
