Remove Sipa Yankey from office, NDC MP tells Mills
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Oct 9, Ghanadot - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Shai Osudoku in the Greater Accra Region, Hon. David Assuming, is calling on all government officials cited in the Mabey and Johnson scandal to honourably resign their positions, pending the outcome of investigations into the allegations, in order to save the government further embarrassment.

His comments came moments after President Mills met his cabinet for the first time in two weeks to discuss the Mabey and Johnson corruption scandal, which analysts say is a major test case for a party which rode to power on the back of a campaign to deal firmly with corruption, nepotism and cronyism from within and without.

The MP is worried that the continuous stay in office of Health Minister, Sipa Yankey, Mr. Kwame Peprah and other government functionaries in office will “push President John Mills to the wall.”

Speaking to Citi Fm, Mr. Assuming said the need for the indicted government officials to resign is long overdue.

“these persons involved shouldn’t push the President to the wall…I am of the view that by now these persons involved should quietly step aside and allow investigations to go into the activities mentioned.”

According to him, the NDC party emerged from the tenets of probity and accountability and for that matter the principles must be applied in this case in order to establish the veracity or otherwise of the allegations.

“The tenets of the revolution that we all emerged from should be maintained in this matter.” He said.
