Samia Nkrumah honoured
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, July 20, Ghanadot - The Convention People's Party (CPP) has honoured Samia Yaba Nkrumah a Member of Parliament for Jomoro for being the only CPP MP in Parliament. Several other active women in the party were also honoured.

According to the National Women's Organizer of the CPP, Hajia Hamdatu Alima, the essence of the programme was to honour dedicated women of the CPP whose efforts ensured in boosting the party from the 1950s to date.

Hajia Alima disclosed that Samia Nkrumah's success in breaking through the political scene should urge more CPP women to get into parliament.

A member of the CPP Planning Committee, Elizabeth Akpalu, noted, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's government realized the potentials of women and thus had ten women elected to parliament.

She said, the realization of Ghana’s democracy demanded a proportional gender representation system in parliament.

Samia Yaba Nkrumah received the highest award for her dedication to revive the party.

The Jomoro MP called for an early congress to create sufficient time to draw up an effectual approach to win more seats in 2012.
