Newmont holds workshop for media personnel

Koforidua, Feb 20, Ghanadot - One of the mining giant in Ghana, Newmont Company (Akyem project) has organized a workshop for Media Personnel at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The workshop which was fully attended by media personnel from the various media houses in the region was aimed at equipping the media to the various aspects of the project being carried by the mining company and how it is handling the issues of compensation and other payments.

Speaking at the workshop, the Communication Manager of Newmont (Akyem project) Mr. Oduro-Kwarteng Marfo outlined the measures being taken by the company to improve the lives of the people in its catchment area.

He said, since the company acquired a prospecting license in 2002, a number of developmental projects have been carried out in their operational area and mentioned some as Education, Health, Sanitation, Agriculture among others.

That notwithstanding, Mr Kwarteng said the company would continue to support the development project in its area of operation to enhance the socio- economic development of the people.

Mr. Oduro promised that, the Newmont company is committed to work as partners and collaborators with the government and the communities to bring meaning development to the people.

He however urged the media Personnel to always cross-check their facts before coming out with their stories about the mining company and anything short of that he said could send wrong signals to the general public.
