I endorse the new communication system at Presidency - Mrs Rawlings
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Jan 29, Ghanadot - The former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has endorsed the new system of information dissemination of government, where the Information Ministry takes charge of government communication and correspondence from the Presidency.

In an interview on Citi FM, she said, it is always better to have a single channel for information flow to avoid inconsistencies.

“It is better to have one chain of command where information trickles down and then from down to the top, then you know who is saying what and what is being done and so on” she said.

President Mills on Monday January 25 carried out his first major reshuffle, which restructured the communication channel at the presidency. Until the reshuffle, there were about three communication channels in government - the Information Ministry, manned by Zita Okaikoi and her two deputies, the Communications Directorate at the Presidency and the office of the Presidential Spokesperson also at the presidency.

The three offices occasionally churned out conflicting information on a single subject.

The Vice President, John Mahama, recently bemoaned the structure and said it was ineffective.

Though the newly elected vice chair of the ruling party will not pronounce on the individual capabilities of the main players in the new system, she said she had no idea about how expressive the Information Minister designate, Hon. John Tia, who has been dragged from the majority bench of parliament to restructure government communications is.
