Residents urged not to lease lands for the construction
of masts
Accra, June 12, Ghanadot/GNA - Ms
Sherry Ayittey, Minister for Environment, Science and
Telecommunication on Friday inspected some telecommunication
facilities being mounted by the management of Mobile
Telecommunications Network (MTN) at Odorkor, a suburb in
Accra.
This was after receiving complaints from Mr Joe Appiah,
Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.
Ms Ayittey ordered the workers to stop work on the project
to allow officials from Ghana Atomic Energy Commission to
research into the level of radiation which would be emitted
by the transmission facilities.
She assured the residents of the ministry’s readiness to let
management of MTN halt the project if its radiation effect
was declared to be high.
Ms Ayittey appealed to the residents not to lease land for
residential accommodation for the erection of communication
masts.
Mr Tony Cox, Project Manager, explained that that the
transmission facilities being installed emitted just a
little radiation but Ms Ayittey and her entourage did not
agree with him.
Mr Appiah expressed appreciation to Ms Ayittey for her swift
response to the complaints and inspecting the facility.
