Education Minister: GES boss has not been fired
Audrey Agyiri-Inkoom, Ghanadot

The Minister of Education, Alex Tettey Enyo has dismissed as untrue reports that the Director - General of the Ghana Education Service has been sacked.

According to him, however that the GES boss Mr. Bannerman-Mensah has only been asked to proceed on leave.

The Ghanaian Times on Tuesday April 6 quoted a source close to the GES as saying that Mr. Bannerman-Mensah has been fired from his position for “defying orders from above”.

The report also indicated that a former Rector of the Ho Polytechnic, Dr George Afeti, had been tipped as the new Director-General for the GES.

But in Interview on Citi fm, Mr. Alex Tetteh Enyo denied the report and stated that Mr Bannerman Mensah had accumulated leave and has been asked to proceed on leave.

“…The GES boss is not fired, I don’t know where they picked that information from…he has accumulated leave and he has been asked to proceed on leave, he has not been sacked”

The Minister of Education also stated that Mr. Bannerman Mensah who was due for retirement in January 2011 would be replaced by his immediate deputy, Naana Biney.
