Alhaji Mumuni to answer corruption charges
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, July 13, Ghanadot - Before his vetting as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni came under strong criticism for his alleged misappropriation of state fund when he was the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare from the year 1997-2001. This culminated in a walk-out by the Minority members of the Appointment Committee.

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) a pressure group for instance was opposed to Mumuni's nomination as the Foreign Minister.
AlhajI Mumuni however managed to scale through as he told the vetting committee that the audit report that indicted him was never laid before Parliament hence it was illegal.

The 2004 Auditor General Forensic report has finally laid before parliament and it involves the Minister's activities at the National Vocational Training Institute.

Majority leader Alban Bagbin laid the report which covered the period 1997 – 2002 on Monday January 13, 2009.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ave-Avenor, Doe Adjaho, referred the report to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament for assessment and recommendations.

The allegations of financial malfeasance against the minister are set to dominate discussions in Parliament today when the House begins debating issues in it.

The Minority has given a strong indications of their preparedness to hit hard at the government when the debate starts.
