GFA to build mini stadium at Prampram
Accra, Dec 6, Ghanadot/GNA –
President of the Ghana Football Association, (GFA) Kwesi
Nyantakyi has said that plans are underway to construct a
mini stadium at Prampram as part of efforts to develop
infrastructure for the development of the sport in the
country.
The 5000 – capacity stadium would be the final phase of the
development of the 100 – acre of land at the Ghanaman Soccer
Centre of Excellence into a soccer village located in the
West Dangbe District of the Greater Accra Region.
The President said this on Thursday at the sod-cutting
ceremony for the commencement of the second phase of
development at the Prampram-based centre.
The project would include the construction of a hostel for
the female national teams, two training pitches and a
multi-purpose hall.
Mr Nyantakyi said the project, which is estimated at 2.5
million dollars has the FA contributing 600,000 dollars
which forms part of the 4.9 million dollars for
participating in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
The GFA Boss said the construction of additional facilities
at the Centre is to reduce congestion and inconvenience
anytime two or more national teams are camped ahead of major
assignments.
He said this is in line with the Association’s core
objective of developing infrastructure and technical base of
the sport in the quest to develop it to the highest level.
Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and
Sports said the Centre has been very beneficial as it has
reduced the financial burden of the Ministry and the GFA on
accommodation.
He appealed to corporate institutions to support the
facility whose completion would be vital in pushing Ghana
football to international standards.
Mr Adjewerh Nortey, District Chief Executive of Dangme West
also assured of the Assembly’s support to ensure the project
comes to fruition.
The project is expected to be completed in mid-2009.
The GNA Sports gathered that Yangtse River International
Engineering (Ghana) Company Limited are the contractors for
the project with Pro Arc as the consultants.
The first phase of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence
was made possible by the 400, 000 dollar grant by world
football governing body, Federation of International
Football Associations (FIFA) for the Goal Project.
