Division Two soccer league to kick of in Eastern Region on February 17

Koforidua, Dec. 2, Ghanadot/GNA - The Eastern Regional Division Two Soccer league is to kick off on February 17, 2008 with the registration of clubs and players to starts immediately before the end of December 27, this year.


Representatives of the clubs took the decision at the end of this year’s annual Congress of the Eastern Region Football Association (ERFA) which ended at Koforidua at the weekend.


The Congress also decided to increase the participation fess for old Clubs from 400,000 cedis to 600,000 cedis while newly promoted Clubs to the Division Two league would be expected to pay 800,000 cedis.


It also decided to start the construction of a modern office complex at the Koforidua Sports Stadium on a piece of land allocated to the ERFA by the National Sports Council.


The building is to be funded by contributions from the Second and Third divisions, women soccer and colts soccer league clubs in the Region with additional contribution from the Ghana Football Association.


The Chairman of the ERFA, Mr Abdul Lawal in an address said the Regional Football Association (RFA) has decided to lay emphasis on juvenile soccer by managing to organize all the well managed juvenile clubs in the region, which has ensured an increase in the number of colts clubs from 18 clubs last year to 86 clubs this year.


Mr Lawal expressed concern about the way management of some clubs in the region try to use the media to castigate the RFA by calling them names but continue to enjoy the benefit from the hard work of the executive committee of the RFA.


The Chairman expressed his appreciation to various radio stations for their hard work and show of appreciation to the good works of the RFA.
