African Canadian women's achievement award 2008

The 3rd annual African Canadian Women’s Achievement is being held on August 30th, 2008 at Holiday Inn Select located at 600 Dixon Road from 7p.m-1a.m. The aim of the awards is to acknowledge, honor and record the good deeds being done in the community as well as society by women. It is meant to serve as a time when we pause and reflect on making our own dreams come true as we listen to stories of women who have overcome, fought and worked hard to make in difference.
The award was founded 3 years ago by Anna Aidoo a motivational speaker and a community member and is run by Endless Possibilities and Hope Development Organization. Since its inception in 2006 women from various sectors of the community have been honoured, the categories are Health, Journalism, Arts, Education, Community Development, Volunteerism, Single Mother, Religion, Business and Leadership.
This year 9 women from various communities are being honoured and they are Jill Andrew (Journalist/ former Columnist Metro News), Dr. Mary Ashun (Educator/Children’s Book Writer), Lanre Tunji Ajayi (Business and philanthropist), May Hughes (Health and Volunteerism), Nikki Clarke (Entrepreneur), Jane Musoke Nteyafas (Artist, Poet and Entertainer), and Audrey Walters (President BBPA, Leadership) and Keda Edwards-Pierre (Law Enforcement and Community Development and Saron Ghebressellassie (Future Leader).
Some of our invited guests are Chief Armand LaBarge Chief of York Regional Police, Professor Njoki Wane (Professor in the Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education U of T), Professor Modupe Olaogun, (Assistant Professor Departmment of English York University and Master of Stong College) and more.
Entertainment for the evening will include African Cultural drumming and dancing by Nutsifafa Cultural Ensemble with electrifying performances from Ghana West Africa, Solo performances and poetry, DON’T MISS THIS INSPIRATIONAL EVENT!
