NPP salutes farmers on Farmer's Day

Accra, Dec 08, Ghanadot/GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended its congratulation to the country's farmers and fishermen on the 23rd National Farmers Day.

In a statement issued in Accra on Friday, signed by the General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, the Party said it joins Ghanaians in extending congratulations to farmers and fishermen for keeping hunger at bay in the country during the past year.

It noted that during the past seven years of the NPP administration, there had been no lean season and expressed the hope that in spite of the floods that hit parts of the country, which destroyed farms, farmers and fishermen would continue to produce food in abundance and make life comfortable for Ghanaians.

The statement said that the NPP, which places agri-business at the heart of its programme for the nation's economic development, it is particularly happy that the nation gave full attention to farmers and fishermen on the day set aside in the year to honour them.

It expressed the hope that they would continue to play a vital role in making the programme to make agriculture the foundation of the nation's development a success.

The statement said, it was the NPP government's acceptance of the key role farmers and fishermen play in national life that it raised the top prize for the Best Farmer from a pick-up truck to a house

It said that, "As long as the party remains in power, which is expected to be for a considerable number of years, the farmers of this country will be properly recognized and encouraged to make the nation's march toward its Vision 2015 a reality".
