MASLOC gives 13.9 billion cedis to
groups and individuals in V/R
Jasikan (V/R), Dec.6, Ghanadot/GNA - A total of 3,217
productive groups and 67 individuals in the Volta Region
have received 13.9 billion cedis as micro credit and small
loans.
The money made available by the Microfinance and Small Loan
Centre (MASLOC), is to be used to promote and boost
businesses of the beneficiaries and their communities.
The recipients will pay interest of 10 percent while the
groups pay between 13 and 16 percent on the facility,
according to Mr Lawrence Prempeh, Chief Executive Officer of
MASLOC who presented cheques to the beneficiaries at
separate functions at Kadjebi and Akatsi.
Mr Prempeh said the project was part of government's
on-going initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and promoting
growth in the country's economy.
He expressed the hope that the initiative would power the
economy to grow towards a middle income status.
Togbe Dzamedzi Nyagbo III, Volta Regional Coordinator of
MASLOC, described MASLOC as an engine of Government's Growth
and Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS) II programme.
He said MASLOC was determined to provide non-exploitative
financial services to the poor and economically
disadvantaged communities and called on all to support the
programme to enable it achieve its aim.
Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, said
government remained committed to reducing poverty in the
country and called on all to support strategies to ensure
speedy socio-economic development.
He advised beneficiaries to use the facility judiciously and
pay back in time for others to also benefit.
"Remember that the money is not a Christmas gift, so use it
well and pay back early for others to also benefit", he told
the recipients.
