Bimoba Chief to hand over warmongers
to the Police
Accra, Dec.2, Ghanadot/GNA- Alhaji Abuba Nasenmong,
Paramount Chief of Bimoba in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District
of the Northern Region, at the weekend vowed to hand over
people fanning ethnic and chieftaincy conflicts in the area
to the security agencies.
He said the traditional authorities were interested in
efforts aimed at eradicating wide spread ignorance, diseases
and poverty in the area instead of spending their time and
resources on unprofitable conflicts.
Alhaji Nasenmong was speaking at a reception organised by Mr
Bugri Naabu, a Konkomba Opinion Leader in Accra for Bimoba
and Konkomba chiefs and opinion leaders, who were involved
in a bloody ethnic conflict, September this year.
The two ethnic groups had been locked up in previous
conflicts, which claimed a number lives and property.
Alhaji Nasenmong said some opinion leaders in the area were
behind the conflicts and promised to expose them in the
interest of peace, unity and development.
He said it was humiliating for his people to allow
government to spend huge sums of money on security instead
of development.
The Bimoba and Konkomba delegation met with President John
Agyekum in Accra last week to formally announce to him their
determination to bury the hatchet.
Mr Charles Bintin, Minister of State and Member of
Parliament for Saboba, noted that he could only agree that
lasting peace had returned to the two ethnic groups if they
meet and dispassionately trash all knotty issues that had
led to previous conflicts.
Uborr Dalatu Labal II, Paramount Chief of Sanguli and a
member of the National Reconciliation Commission, expressed
joy that the two warring factions are now striving to live
in peace.
Both Mr Dubik Mahama Yakubu, legal practitioner from the
area and Mr Naabu asked the people to expose perpetrators of
conflicts in the District to curtail their selfish agenda.
