Two Ministries share one phone line

Accra, Nov. 28, Ghanadot/GNA - Lack of separate telephone lines for the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Harbours and Railways is hindering work as officers from the two ministries have to share one phone line to transact official business.

It means while an officer in the Ministry of Communications is on the line, his counterpart from the other ministry could interrupt.

The two ministries are located on the same floor with a wall separating them.
The GNA witnessed an incident on Wednesday when the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Communications was on the line.

Someone at the Ministry of Harbours and Railways picked the handset and said "It is enough let me also use the phone."

An official from the Ministry of Communications said the ministry used to be "Ministry of Communications and Transportation.''

When it was separated the phone line was diverted to the Harbours sector but officials from the Ministry of Communications could also access the line to make and receive calls.

He said about four years ago he put in a memo requesting a separate line but till date a GHC20 (200,000 cedis) fee requested to enable the Telecom operators fix the line had not been paid.
