Atukwei Okai attends Mo Ibrahim Prize

Accra, Nov. 26, Ghanadot/GNA - Professor Atukwei Okai,
Secretary-General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA)
has been invited to the presentation of the inaugural Mo
Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership where Mr
Joachim Chissano; Former President of Mozambique would
receive the largest prize in history at the Bibliotheca
Alexandrina in Egypt.
Prof. Okai, who is also a celebrated African poet would thus
join leaders from the world of public policy, business,
academia, media and the civil society.
A statement issued by PAWA explained that the Mo Ibrahim
Foundation, established in October 2006 is an African
initiative which aimed at stimulating debate on good
governance across Sub-Saharan Africa and celebrated
achievers in African leadership.
Mr Chissano would receive five million dollars over 10 years
and 200 thousand dollars annually for the rest of his life.
The prize is open to former heads of state or governments
from Sub-Saharan Africa who have left office three years and
demonstrated exemplary leadership.
The ceremony would feature presentations from Nelson Mandela
and Kofi Annan among many invited guests from all over the
world.
As part of the ceremony there would be a concert led by
Youssou N' Dour which would feature Angelique Kidjo and
Salif Keita backed by the Cairo Orchestra and the Super
Etoile.
