ECG replaces stolen cables in Kwahu at 17,000 cost

Mpraeso (E/R), Aug. 27, GNA – The Mpraeso District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) spent 17,000 Ghana cedis to replace overhead electricity cables stolen over the past seven months.

Over 10,000 Ghana cedis were also spent to replace stolen overhead cables in the Mpraeso town alone, which was the hardest hit among other communities, the District Director of the ECG, Mr Stephen Kakutey, told the GNA in an interview on Wednesday.

He said landlords in the district had also spent huge sums of money to replace service cables, which were also stolen.
Mr Kakutey attributed the rampant stealing of the cables to the copper used for the cables, which are now being used to manufacture all kinds of jewelleries.

He therefore advised communities in the district to form neighbourhood watch dogs committees to arrest the criminals and gave the assurance that management would reward those who would assist to arrest the thieves.
