Said Sinare rescinds decision to
resign from the NDC
Accra, Aug. 01, Ghanadot/GNA – Alhaji Said Sinare, a
National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic
Congress (NDC) on Friday rescinded his decision to resign
from the party four days after the shocking news flashed the
political scene.
In statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Alhaji
Sinare, said; “I have rescinded my previous decision to
quite the NDC due to personal circumstances, now am back to
the folds and would continue to be a bona fide member of the
NDC, in my capacity as a vice chairman of the party”.
He said after consultation with Professor John Evans Atta
Mills, the party’s Flag bearer for Election 2008 and other
leading members, “I re-commit myself to the agenda of the
party to win the December polls.”
Alhaji Sinare on Tuesday, July 29, resigned from the party
but failed to officially inform the party.
In an interview with GNA, Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy General
Secretary said: "Alhaji Sinare has not informed the party of
his decision to resign; we heard it in the news and I cannot
comment on speculations until we receive a formal
resignation letter from our National Vice."
He said, "If it is true, our honourable gentleman would use
the right channel to communicate to the party hierarchy," he
said.
Alhaji Sinare, former NDC Member of Parliament for Ayawaso
Central, who lost the seat in 1996 to Sheikh I. C. Quaye,
the current Greater Accra Regional Minister, announced his
resignation to some private radio stations in Accra, saying
another senior NDC member, Mr Ato Ahwoi should know whey he
has quit the party. Mr. Ahwoi says he has no idea why ALhaji
Sinare resigned.
He was elected as the Second National Vice Chairman in
December 22, 2005 at the NDC's Sixth National Delegates'
Conference in the Eastern Region capital, Koforidua, under
the theme: "United for Victory 2008".
Meanwhile another Deputy General Secretary, Mr Elvis Afriyie
Ankrah, said the party would do everything possible to bring
Alhaji Sinare back to the party if the purported resignation
was true.
In a related development later on Thursday, Members of the
Eastern Regional Zongo Caucus of the party appealed to him
to rescind his decision to resign from the party.
The group appealed to Alhaji Sinare to consider the party’s
interest first when taking any decision.
Alhaji Sumani Mahama, Deputy Regional Organizer, urged
Alhaji Sinare to find amicable ways of resolving differences
between him and any member of the party rather than
deserting the party at the time when he and the party needed
each other most.
He said the group had confidence in Alhaji Sinare and urged
him to consider the party when taking a decision.
Alhaji Mahama said Alhaji Sinare could use his position to
help build a united NDC that would win the December
elections.
He appealed to Alhaji Sinare to help mobilize more members
of the Zongo community to vote for the party so as to win
the December elections.
He said a victory by the NDC would bring happiness and joy
to every home in all Zongo communities in the country.
