Court remands four murder suspects in custody

Kumasi, July 31, Ghanadot/GNA - A Kumasi High Court on Monday remanded four suspects in custody for their alleged roles in the murder of Nana Badu Boakye Dankwa II, chief of Achiase-Mim.

The pleas of the four - Nana Akwasi Addae, Kwaku Owusu, Kwaku Boakye Senior and Akua Bema - were not taken and they will reappear before the court on October 22.

The police are looking for a fifth suspect, Kwaku Boakye Junior, who is on the run.
Prosecuting, Mr Emmanuel Otoo-Boison, Assistant State Attorney in Kumasi, told the court, presided over by Justice Adu Ampomah, that the suspects, who were members of the royal family and were opposed to the installation of the deceased chief.

He said the accused conspired to eliminate the deceased in order to accomplish their opposition to his installation.

He said on December 12, last year, the suspects carried out their motive by shooting to death, Nana Boakye Dankwa, while he was taking his bath in his house, shortly after returning from a trip to Tema.

Mr Otoo-Boison said after the shooting, the suspects attempted to escape but they were arrested and after interrogation, they confessed to the police of their involvement in the murder.

He said the police were yet to retrieve the gun, which was used to kill the chief.
