DCE urges institutions to plant trees
Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), July
31, GNA- Squadron Leader Benjamin Anane Asamoah (rtd),
Dormaa District Chief Executive(DCE), has tasked educational
institutions in the area to plant at least 50 teak seedlings
during the rainy season as part of Ghana's independence
golden jubilee celebration.
The DCE who was addressing a meeting of heads of
decentralized departments at Dormaa-Ahenkro, said about
200,000 teak seedlings were ready for transplanting and
invited interested individuals and groups to contact the
assembly.
The heads of department took turns to brief Squadron Leader
Asamoah on their annual action plans and recommended
possible areas of collaboration for effective administration
of the district.
Miss Florence Iddrisah Nzilanye, the District Director of
Health Services, expressed concern over the district's
immunization rate, which she said almost always exceeded 100
per cent and attributed the situation to the lack of
adequate data on target groups.
To counter this, she said, the District Health Directorate
had planned to intensify surveillance and data collection to
ensure adequate records on the district.
Miss Nzilanye said maternal deaths was high in the district
and suggested the introduction of ambulance services to
convey expectant mothers to health centres to ensure their
safe delivery.
Mr. Martin Amponsah, the Manager of the District Mutual
Health Insurance Scheme, announced that the scheme had
registered 55,989 members out of the district's population
of more than 150,000.
He expressed regret that the youth had shunned the scheme,
as they claimed they did not fall sick often.
"Another problem confronting the scheme is the maternal
exemption, which allows expectant mothers free access to
delivery. The problem is that many women tend to rely on
this exemption and refuse to join the scheme."
Mr. Amponsah also said some members of the scheme attended
hospital even when they did not require medical attention
placing unnecessary pressure on the scheme.
He said in May 2007 alone a total of 1,277 members attended
hospitals in the district and the scheme spent 100, 000
Ghana cedis on their medical bills.
