NPP delegates urged to vote for Aliu Mahama

Fomena (Ash), July 30, Ghanadot/GNA- The Adansi Zongo Muslim community has called on the delegates to this year's congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect the Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama as the flagbearer because he stands for truth and discipline.

Alhaji Jibrin Ibrahim, Chief of Adansi Zongo, told the Ghana News Agency at Fomena in the Adansi North district, that the nation needed a leader who is selfless, truthful and hates indiscipline.

He said the Vice-President stood for all these qualities and that it would serve the NPP better should they vote for him as their flagbearer for the 2008 general elections.
The Vice-President recently toured the Adansi State as part of his working visit to the Ashanti region during which he inspected a number of development projects at Obuasi, Akrofuom and Fomena.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama also used the tour to address Muslim communities and affirmed his intention to contest for the Presidential slot of the NPP.

Alhaji Ibrahim said newspaper reports had created a wrong impression that the Vice-President had no support from the Muslim community. "That is not true. We are solidly behind him because he believes in God, he is also truthful and disciplined".

He indicated that all Muslim communities in the Adansi area would readily support the NPP in the 2008 elections should Alhaji Aliu Mahama emerge as the flagbearer.
He appealed to the constituencies in the Adansi State in particular and the Ashanti region in general to support and vote for the Vice President.

He commended the Vice President for the various roles he had played in the government to ensure that the Muslim community received their fair share of the national cake.

"The Obuasi Municipal Assembly's assistance to the Zongo community in the areas of water, schools and the rehabilitation of the Chief's palace came as a result of the influence of the Vice President", Alhaji Ibrahim said.

The Zongo Chief said Alhaji Aliu Mahama had proved his competence in the governing of this country because never had any confusion erupted in the country anytime the President left for foreign assignments.

He therefore urged the NPP delegates to select him, since he was the better choice.
