Clear Ramps on Kumasi - Accra Highway
- Asawase MP
Accra, July 27, Ghanadot/GNA - Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, MP
for Asawase on Tuesday made an urgent appeal to the Ministry
of Transportation to ensure that ramps were cleared from the
Accra-Kumasi Highway.
He said in a statement in Parliament that if these ramps
were not removed it would rather increase accidents and
cause the breakdown of vehicles.
"It is well known that everywhere across the world,
generally no speed ramps are constructed on highways.
Unfortunately, this is what is currently happening in our
country," Alhaji Mubarak.
He added that between Konongo and Ejisu on the Accra-Kumasi
Road, there were over 10 speed ramps for a distance of 20
kilometres on the newly constructed asphalt road.
"Mr. Speaker, at each spot, one could count as many as six
to eight thick and high ramps. This is unacceptable and can
lead to deadly accidents if care is not taken as one drives
on them."
He suggested the construction of overhead bridges to
pedestrians to avoid crossing the main road, and called on
the Ministry of Information to organize public education on
the use of overhead bridges.
Rather than ramps on the highways, Alhaji Mubarak suggested
speed cameras and police patrol teams to ensure that drivers
reduced their speed as they approached a town.
