Ghanaians urged not to conceal
criminals
Juaso (Ash), July 24, Ghanadot/GNA – Ghanaians have been
urged not to conceal criminals irrespective of their status
in society.
Superintendent Francis Aggripa Oppong, Asante-Akim South
District Police Commander, who made the call, said shielding
criminals from the law was inimical to the work of the
police.
He was speaking at a crusade organised by the Juaso Local
Council of Churches at Juaso to commemorate this year’s
Christian Home Week celebration.
The week-long celebration was on the theme, “Rape and
Defilement, A Challenge to the Family”.
Supt. Oppong said the settlement of rape and defilement
cases at homes were in contravention with the Criminal Code,
1960 (Act 29) and cautioned religious leaders to desist from
arbitrating such cases.
He said the practice amounted to condoning the crime, saying
the arbitrators were as guilty as the culprits.
Supt. Oppong stated that the work of the police thrived on
public information and urged the public to report such cases
to enable the police rid society of miscreants.
He disclosed that five defilement and one rape cases were
reported in the district last year, adding that the same
number of cases were reported between January and June this
year.
