Pay your taxes voluntarily-
NCCE
Half-Assini (W/R), July 24, GNA- Eligible taxpayers have
been reminded to honour their tax obligations voluntarily
since it is a major source of revenue for government's
developmental programmes.
Mr. Kwame Armoh, Jomoro District Director of the National
Commission of Civic Education (NCCE) said even though the
payment of tax had always been "unwelcome" for many, people
must cultivate the habit of paying their taxes voluntarily
for their common good.
He was speaking at a tax education forum at Half-Assini on
Monday, organised by the NCCE in collaboration with the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to explain the different
types of taxes and mode of payment of such taxes under the
existing tax laws.
Mr. Armoh stressed that government's determination to
provide good roads; better education and health facilities,
potable water and employment among others would be greatly
enhanced if the people pay their taxes promptly and
honestly.
Mr. Yaw Opoku, IRS Director for Jomoro and Nzema East
districts said pragmatic measures had been introduced to
make tax collection particularly in the informal sector more
efficient and appealed to the people to cooperate with tax
collection agencies to improve upon their operations.
Mr. John K. Acolatse of the Customs Excise and Preventive
Service collection point at Jaway Wharf advised traders to
use only approved entry points and regard the personnel of
the service as partners and not enemies.
The use of unapproved routes by some importers and
exporters, he said, was a grave offence detrimental to the
national economy and warned that the law would deal with
offenders if caught.
The NCCE had also organised similar forums for members of
the local Traditional Healers Association and some religious
groups in the districts.
