African Commission on Human and
People's Rights reviews its decision on Tsatsu
Accra, 24 July, Ghanadot - The African Commission on Human
and People's Rights (HCHPR) "has decided to review its
decision on the admissibility of Tsatsu Tsikata's
request taken at its 40th Ordinary Session held from 15th -
29th November 2006, in Banjul, The Gambia".
Mr Tsikata, in his request,
said that the Government of Ghana was manipulating the
Judiciary to find him guilty of causing financial loss to
the State at all cost without regard to due process.
The Commission in its earlier decision ruled that an earlier
petition sent to it by Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, was inadmissible
because he had not exhausted all the legal avenues available
to him in Ghana.
However, Mr Tsikata made documentary submissions to the
Commission during its 41st Ordinary Session held in Accra,
Ghana from 16th to 30 May 2007 after which the Commission
has found it necessary to review its earlier decision.
A letter from the Commission made available to the press on
Tuesday said: "This latter decision is in line with 'Rule
118 (2) of its Rules of Procedure'.
It said: " For this purpose, the
African Commission will need to receive and consider fresh
or additional submission on the admissibility of the
Communication from both parties, and hereby request you to
submit any additional new facts, which may support the
admissibility of the Communication."
Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata was the
former Chief Executive of Ghana National Petroleum
Corporation (GNPC).
