Bring Back Discipline and Morale in Presbyterians- Chaplain

Accra, July 20, GNA - Reverend Patrick Ayesu, Chaplain of the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, (PRESEC), Legon, on Friday urged Presby school teachers to reintroduce morale education and discipline to help mould the character of the pupils.
He said the Presbyterians were well noted for discipline but the habit was fading out and needed to fight the indiscipline, lateness, absenteeism and other social vices that had engulfed not only Presbyterian schools but other schools as well.

"The three things every child need is academic excellence and morale to achieve success in life and should not be played down", he added.

Rev. Ayesu who said this when he inaugurated a 15-member School Management Committee (SMC) of the PRESEC Staff Primary School in Accra noted that the world is challenging and there was the need to train the children to face and overcome the challenges ahead of them in life.

He said the development of a child depended not only on academic work but morale was equally important and urged teachers to see to the morale teaching aspect of the children.

He said as much as teachers had a role in the teaching of a child, the home was the first classroom of every children and called on parents not to shower money on their children but make enough of their time available for them at home.

"Putting money in their pockets is like putting a weapon in the hands of a child to destroy him or herself. Parents are no more having time for their children, they leave very early in morning for work and come home very late when their children are asleep and had no idea whatever the child did for the day".

Rev. Ayesu called on Presbyterian churches to also make it a responsibility to support their schools and offer the needed assistance for their enhancement.

In speech read for her, Mrs Emma Baaba Quaicoo, Ga East District Education Director charged the SMCs to ensure that the school's buildings and furniture were in good conditions, inform the community and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service of the developments in the school and ensure the welfare of the teachers.

The SMC is chaired by Mr. Africanus Anane, Headmaster of Presec Secondary School with representation from the Parents Teachers Association, District Assembly, the church, Old Students Association, District Education Office and the District Education Planning Team.
