Lufthansa daily flights approval expires, suspends flights
from Accra
Accra, July 15, GNA - Lufthansa German Airlines says it has
been forced to suspend its operations between Accra and
Frankfurt following the expiration of its approval for daily
flights between the two cities on Saturday July 14, 2007.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Ms. Babette Melling,
Marketing Manager of Lufthansa, the airline was informed by
the Ghanaian Ministry of Aviation that government approval
for the airline’s daily flights to Ghana had expired and it
(airline) would be allowed only two flights a week
connecting Accra with Frankfurt".
"Unfortunately however, the airline cannot accept the option
of two flights a week, since this is not an economically
viable proposition". Lufthansa truly regrets being forced to
take Ghana off its destination map from 15th July under
these circumstances.
She explained that the last flight, LH 565, departed on
Saturday, 14th July, from Accra to Frankfurt (via Lagos)
arriving in Frankfurt on Sunday morning.
Ms Melling said Lufthansa and Ghana have enjoyed a long and
dedicated commitment of 40 years and are happy for the
collaboration."The flights connections to Lagos/ Nigeria
remain unaffected," she added.
She noted that Lufthansa would endeavours to keep
inconveniences caused thereby to the minimum, saying that
passengers booked on flights after 15th July will be
provided with alternatives.
