Pupils to plant 3,800 tree species
to mark World Environment Day in Kumasi
Kumasi, July 15, Ghanadot/GNA - The Ashanti Regional Directorate of
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has distributed 3,800
tree seedlings of teak, militia and acacia to 12 basic
schools in Kumasi Metropolis for planting to mark World
Environment Day on Wednesday, July 23.
A statement issued by the directorate in Kumasi on Tuesday
and signed by Mr Kwesi Eyia-Mensah Programme Officer of EPA
said the Day would be launched at Bantama Presbyterian
Primary School Park.
The celebration is under the theme “Plant a Tree-Reduce
Global Warming”.
It said, the global theme for the Day was “Kick the
Habit-Towards a Low Carbon Economy” which also identified
the contribution of greenhouse to climate change and
provided an initiative to solve the problem.
The statement said the most important solution to global
warming and climate change were to release carbon dioxide
emissions by considering green options adding “by becoming
carbon conscious, we would not only be combating climate
change but paving the way for a greener and cleaner global
economy”.
