Armed robbers attack filling stations in Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A), July 15, Ghanadot/GNA - Armed robbers have been attacking filling stations within Sunyani Municipality and three filling stations came under attack within the past two weeks and huge sums of money taken away.

They were Glory Oil filling station at New Dormaa, near Sunyani, where the management lost 25 million cedis (Ghc2,500) to the robbers.

Briefing the GNA, Chief Superintendent of Police Christian Tetteh Yohonu, Municipal Police Commander said at about 2130 hours on July 10, two young men wearing military camouflage attire went to the filling station with a gallon under the pretext of buying fuel.

He said driver of a KIA tipper truck who was being served at that time saw one of them holding a gun and when he attempted to alert the fuel attendants the robbers ordered him to sit on the ground and he promptly obeyed.

The Municipal Police Commander said the robbers also ordered three security men on duty to do same before they approached the two attendants and snatched their money bags, but not satisfied with what they got, they marched the attendants to their office and collected whatever money they found.

Still not satisfied with the booty, Chief Superintendent Yohonu said, the robbers took them to the manager's office and demanded the keys but the attendants could not produce it so they tried to force the door open but could not succeed and later left the scene.

Chief Superintendent Yohonu said a taxi driver who witnessed the scene rushed to the police station and reported the incident but when the police arrived the robbers had left.
He advised the public to inform the police either by phone or rush to the police station when they encountered such events but should not stand and watch unconcerned.

The Municipal Police Commander said the police had mounted a search for the robbers.
