Calm returns to Juaso Zongo community
at last
Juaso (Ash), July 13, GNA – Calm has finally returned to the
Juaso Zongo community after months of agitations in protest
against the installation of a new Zongo chief.
This follows a marathon meeting between the District
Security Committee (DISEC) and the two factions engaged in
the chieftaincy dispute on Monday.
The leadership of the Juaso Zongo community had been split
into two factions for over a year after some elders
installed one Musah Bogobiri as the new chief without
adequate consultation with others.
The situation resulted in a series of confrontations between
the two factions at virtually every social gathering as some
people refused to recognize Musah Bogobiri as chief.
Not even the numerous interventions by the Asante-Akim South
District Chief Executive, Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng and
the District Police Commander, Superintendent Francis
Agrippa Oppong could resolve the impasse.
As a result, about eight persons, including Musah Bogobiri
were remanded by the Juaso circuit court for various assault
charges as the struggle for supremacy between the two
factions raged on, thereby heightening tension in the Zongo
community.
This necessitated the meeting between the two aggrieved
parties and the DISEC to find a lasting solution to the
problem.
After a lengthy deliberation which saw both parties
presenting their cases, it became evident that Musah
Bogobiri was eligible to be installed as chief but this was
being hampered by certain flaws in the procedure.
Having identified procedural errors as the cause of the
impasse, an apology was rendered to the aggrieved chiefs
which was accepted on condition that the situation in the
community be observed for a period of three weeks before
confirming the new chief.
The DCE commended the two factions for their co-operation
and frank discussion towards achieving peace in the Zongo
community.
Dr. Gyamfi-Fenteng entreated them to respect the agreement
reached in the interest of the larger community and further
urged them to withdraw all cases pending before court to be
settled amicably at home.
