Sixty bicycles for teachers in
deprived districts
Konongo (Ash), July 13, Ghanadot/GNA – The Asante-Akim North
District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES)
has presented 60 bicycles worth 4.2 million cedis to
teachers serving in deprived areas in the district.
The gesture which formed part of a comprehensive incentive
package to encourage teachers in the deprived areas to give
of their best also seeks to entice more teachers to such
remote areas.
Mr. George Frimpong, the District Chief Executive,
presenting the bicycles at a brief ceremony at Konongo on
Tuesday said pupils in the deprived communities in the
district had equal right to education hence the need to
encourage teachers in such areas.
He said the presentation was in line with government’s
vision to ensure that education was accessible to all and
urged the beneficiary teachers to put the facility to good
use.
The DCE charged the education directorate to prioritise the
welfare of teachers in remote areas as an incentive for them
to accept postings to such areas.
Mr N.T. Donkor, District Director of Education, commended
government for initiating the gesture which he said would go
a long way to promote quality education in deprived
communities.
He expressed the hope that the facility would boost the
morale of the beneficiaries and urged them to cultivate the
culture of maintenance to adequately serve the purpose for
which they were given.
