Let us protest against the infiltration of foreign cultures – Afful

Winneba(CR), July 11, Ghanadot/GNA - Mr Kodwo A. Afful, Effutu Municipal Director of Education has stressed the need to protest against the infiltration of foreign cultures that had adulterated the rich Ghanaian culture to the detriment of national development.

“We need a radical change in the adulteration of our rich and unique culture,” he added.

Mr Afful made the call at a culture festival organized by Ghana Education Service (GES) in collaboration with the Effutu Municipal Assembly for basic schools in the municipality.

All the 30 basic schools participated in a day’s festival under the theme “Unearthing Talents through Culture”, to revive cultural dancing that had been abandoned by the youth.

Mr Afful noted that in the past, Ghanaian highlife music was full of educative proverbs, stories and advice for the people to lead upright life but most of the lyrics in the music now were not ideal for the society.

Mr Robert Andrew Ekow Ghunney, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, advised the pupils to take the festival serious to learn the rich Ghanaian culture.
He urged them to learn hard, be obedient, law-abiding and respect the elderly to become useful citizens in future.

Dr Cosmos W. K. Mireku, Dean of Students Affairs, University of Education, Winneba (UEW) said as a nation, Ghanaians must change from dependence on other people’s technologies and finished products, to develop their own indigenous and innovative ideas and train the citizenry to be creative to add value to national resources.
