Staff of revenue collection agencies asked to be morally upright

Ho, July 8, Ghanadot/GNA- Staff of revenue collection agencies through out the country have been asked to be morally upright to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Mr Godwin Monyo, National HIV/TB Coordinator of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), who gave the advice, said "We must endeavour to indulge in only responsible sex activities to remain healthy for our families and ensure productivity for our beloved country Ghana".

He was speaking at a day's HIV/TB sensitization seminar, organized by the Revenue Agencies Governing Board, for the staff of IRS, Value Added Tax (VAT) Service, the Custom Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) and their spouses and children, on Tuesday in Ho.

The programme, sponsored by German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet), was under the theme, " Maximizing National Revenue in HIV/TB Free environment".

Mr Monyo advised personnel of the revenue collection agencies to check their HIV and TB status regularly and to always have condom with them whenever they go on trek to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

He assured personnel of the agencies who might be infected with HIV/AIDS or sexually transmitted diseases of their dignity, respect and privacy.

Participants were counselled and tested for HIV/AIDS and TB after they were taken through the prevention, mode of infection and management of the two diseases.
