Town planning department criticized
for disorderliness in development
Hohoe, July 5, Ghanadot/GNA- Togbega
Gabusu, paramount chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, on
Wednesday criticized the Hohoe Municipal Directorate of Town
Planning Department for promoting disorderliness in estate
development in the municipality.
He said the Department could not enforce proper layouts for
accessibility and beautification of communities in the
municipality.
Togbega Gabusu raised the concern at the official
inauguration of the Hohoe Municipality.
He said this was creating sprawling slums in communities
such as Gboxome, By-Plan and Kitikpa and increasing danger
in the event of disasters.
Togbega Gabusu said some estate developers obtained building
permits from the department authorizing them to build in
areas marked out for roads, adding "this beats my
imagination".
He expressed worry about the way some roads were being
constructed adding "How are they expected to work when the
roads they are to construct leads into people's rooms and
kitchen due to reckless layout?” Togbega Gabusu queried.
Togbe Gabusu called on government to undertake a thorough
overhaul of the Department to bring sanity to the building
industry.
Mr John Peter Amewu, Municipal Chief Executive, observed
that the assembly has found itself in an uncomfortable
situation over cases relating to land acquisition and
occupancy.
He appealed to landowners especially traditional leaders to
make land available to the assembly to attract investors and
development projects.
Mr Amewu said the property revaluation exercise, which was
stalled for the lack of finance would be resumed.
