 Mrs. Akufo-Addo pledges to champion women’s cause

Kumasi, July 2, Ghanadot/GNA - Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, has pledged to champion the cause of women when she becomes the First Lady. She said though women are in the majority as far as the country’s population is concerned, few of them are in the lime light because most shied away from politics.


Mrs Akufo-Addo was speaking in Kumasi at the weekend when she joined the Grace Baptist Church in Amakom in a programme to climax a one month-long celebration to commemorate the Church’s 40th Anniversary.


Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the situation could change for the better only when they voted her husband to become president.


She was accompanied by Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive and Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister were given a rousing welcome.


Others included Deputy Minister for Ports and Harbours, Mrs. Sophia Horner-Sam, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of Defence and some wives of the loosing presidential aspirants.


Mrs. Akufo-Addo appealed to people, especially women who have not as yet registered, to do so to enable them vote on the election day.


Mr. Owusu-Ansah praised the church for its contribution to the country’s development.


“There is a known partnership between the Church and the state for instance, in the building of schools, hospitals, clinics and others”, he said.


The minister appealed to the citizenry to give the government praise where it is due and reminded them of the government’s greatest achievements of helping to bring peace and stability in the Country.


He also enumerated others as good roads, the free Mass Cocoa Spraying Exercise, Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme that has put money in the pockets of individuals.


Mr. Owusu-Ansah appealed to Ghanaians to vote for NPP to enable it to continue with the work it had started.


Madam Appiagyei appealed to Christians to pray for wisdom and guidance for the country’s leaders so that the Will of God would prevail at the end of the general election.


They later donated an unspecified amount of money to support the Church which is still under construction.
