Bank of Ghana staffs embark on sit-down strike
Accra, July 2, Ghanadot/GNA - Staffs of the Bank of Ghana
have embarked on a sit-down strike following the alleged
dismissal of two of their colleagues, a source close to the
Bank said.
Mr Benjamin Duffuor, Chairman and Mr Frank Mensah, Secretary
of the Bank of Ghana Senior Staff Association, were denied
entry into the Bank's premises on Wednesday.
Ms Esi Hammond, Public Relations Manager of the BOG, told
the Ghana News Agency that the Bank had put in place
contingency arrangements to ensure that its operations were
not disrupted by the sit-down strike embarked on by section
of the staff.
She said the Bank's paramount interest was to avert any
possible downturn that the strike could have on transactions
at the Bank.
She said as an essential service provider any disruption in
operations would have negative consequences for the
financial services sector and the economy as a whole.
"It is in this direction that BoG is doing all within its
power in order not to bring hardships on the people," she
said.
